What is Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is a traditional and official festival in China, and the most important one. Also known as Spring Festivals.
Beside the Gregorian calendar, the Chinese are using Lunar Calendar, which takes the moon's wax and wane period as one month, with a patch named solar terms, a day marking one of the 24 divisions of the solar year, indicating the seasons' milestone, helping the farmers to grow .
The date in a lunar month indicates the moon's and the 24 divisions. Crescent always happens in the 1st day, and plenilune shows in the 15th day.
Chinese New Year is not mapping to a certain day in Gregorian Calendar every year, but usually in January to February. The traditional celebration will last 15 days, yet the official holiday is 7 days.
Chinese industry
Most Chinese factories are located in provinces by coast, yet the labor force are mainly from inner provinces, who are mainly agricultural laborer.
The Hukou policy featured only in China and North Korea restrains the agricultrural laborers to get citizenship in the cities they work. As a result, they prefer not to settle their families where they work, and they have no ambitions on careers or promotions.
Since the Chinese New Year is the most important festival, nearly all agricultrural laborers will go back to their hometown, and after the vacation, return to their working cities, as known as Chunyun (the Grand Transportations in Spring Festival)
The factories usually will give 3~4 more holidays than the official holidays to the agricultrural laborers, in case of them cannot successfully scramble the ticket back to hometown. But since the traditional Spring festival lasts 15 days, and the transportations are overwhelmed during the festival, some worker will leave earlier and back to works earlier, the others may be delayed. the production efficiency will be deeply affected around the Chinese New Year.
